At All States Materials Group, we use our Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) to construct new pavements as well as overlays on distressed or aging pavements that need additional structure and improved surfaces. All States Materials Group’s hot mix asphalt (HMA) is a high quality, flexible and durable pavement manufactured and constructed with well-maintained, state-of-the-art equipment by knowledgeable, experienced professionals. We use performance-graded (PG) neat and modified asphalts as well as conventional and Superpave mixes. We manufacture and place high performance HMA with modified asphalt binders and additives and special mixes (such as open- and gap-graded) for especially difficult locations, such as high traffic intersections and urban interstates.

Hot Mix Asphalt Benefits

  • Smooth and quiet riding surfaces
  • Flexible but strong pavement structures resistant to rutting, cracking and moisture damage
  • Easily maintained
  • Easily recycled
  • Improved smoothness and skid resistance and correction of surface defects (HMA overlays)
  • Available in a variety of high-performance and conventional materials for building and maintaining all types of pavements

The Hot Mix Asphalt Process
The first step is a laboratory mix design. We use the project aggregate and asphalt to design a mix that meets all specifications and your expectations for performance. Our laboratories have the latest equipment for the designs. Our drum and batch plants manufacture the mixture under strict quality control. The mixture is transported to the jobsite, placed with a paver and compacted with rollers using the latest equipment run by our experienced crews. We use quality procedures to have all materials at the correct temperatures, to prevent mixture segregation and to meet target densities. We take pride in safety for our workers and quality materials and construction. For new construction, we build the HMA pavement in layers (lifts) constructed on a well-drained, well-prepared granular base. The bottom layer has the largest size aggregate and resists tensile strain caused by traffic, preventing cracks from forming in the bottom of the pavement. The intermediate or binder course provides the bulk of the HMA structure, distributing the load. The surface or wearing course uses high quality, durable, skid resistant aggregate for a safe, smooth, quiet, easily maintained riding surface.

Where and When to Use Hot Mix Asphalt
HMA pavements are the cost-effective durable road surface of choice for all types of roads, streets and highways, as well as race tracks, airports and other industrial applications. They should be built over well-prepared base structures. HMA overlays are the corrective treatment of choice for asphalt and concrete pavements with severe surface distresses, especially where the ride is rough and/or structure is needed. Before placement, any base or drainage deficiencies should be repaired, and HMA overlays should not be placed over pavements with signs of moisture damage.

Any quality paving project requires quality materials and quality construction. Hot Mix Asphalt manufacture and paving have many variables. Our years of expertise combine quality materials, well-maintained and state-of-the-art equipment, superior methods and trained, experienced crews to seamlessly provide consistently superior projects. And we always stand behind our work, making sure that you are satisfied. Contact us for help with constructing the best pavements and overlays for your needs.
